The French Institue of Khartoum and the French Alliance of Port-Soudan have welcomed Olivier Rolin; author of several novels acclaimed by the public and critics, such as L’Invention du monde (1993), Port-Soudan (1994, prix Femina), Méroé (1998), Tigre en papier (2002, prix France Culture) or more recently Bakou, derniers jours (2010). History, geography, women and revolutions are intertwined in his novels, through journeys down memory lane and the long walk of writing.
Back in Sudan where he stayed in the 1990’s, Olivier Rolin brought the month of the French-speaking world to a close by giving a series of lectures in Khartoum, one of which was given with Claude Rilly, director of the SFDAS; wednesday march 30th 2011 at 7.30PM, in the multimedia library of the French Institute of Khartoum. This « Talk about Meroe » was the occasion to confront fiction and historical as well as archaeological realities.
