Hence this encyclopaedic work, the first synthesis of the brilliant civilizations that succeeded each other, from Prehistory to the contemporary period, marked by a real artistic fertility.

Prefaced by Olivier Rolin, author of Meroe and Port Sudan, this book uses recognized specialists who report the latest scientific discoveries. It is nonetheless easy to access thanks to the clarity of the contributions, the abundance of iconography and the precision of the multiple indexes.

Claude Rilly, Vincent Francigny and Marc Maillot present, in nearly 500 pages, the events and facts of civilization from prehistory to 1820; Bernard François deals with Sudan between 1820 and the most recent period; Odile Nicoloso approaches contemporary life.
